On this episode, we discuss our January 2022 book club pick She Who Became the Sun by  Shelley Parker-Chan, a  queer re-imagining of the rise of the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty. In the last days of the Mongolian ruled Yuan Dynasty, an unnamed daughter takes on her dead brother’s name to survive as a novice monk after her family is attacked by bandits. When that safe haven is also taken from her, she decides that in order to survive, she needs to take on her brother’s abandoned fate of greatness as well ans rise the ranks as the rebel monk commander Zhu Chongba.
